Fic! well, of a sort.
This post contains 3 fic-related things, actually, but no real fic. Sorry.
1) So since the moment of reveal has passed, I can now tell you all that I wrote O My America (the Scientific Method Remix). Which you should read! Because it was a lot of fun to write.
My sock-rocking mystery remixer was
panisdead, who I've now friended, because, um, hi: AWESOME! I reread the remix this morning, and it still is just the coolest thing ever. I await the dvd commentary track with bated breath.
And it got me thinking, and I went back and re-read Revelations, the story
panisdead was remixing. It's - well, if you've read it (or the remix), you know that it's dark, and creepy, and weird. For a lot of people, the ending didn't work, which, you know, hits and misses - although to those people, I would strongly suggest that you read the remix. It makes the whole thing resemble what was actually in my head, all the things I couldn't show, because of the way I was telling the original story.
Any road, I re-read Revelations, which I've been feeling rather uncertain about, and decided that, you know what? I really like this story. Really a lot. I mean, it's creepy and fucked up and it has its flaws, but I really do have an appalling sort of fondness for it.
So I, um. Read it aloud and recorded it?
I'm so ashamed, really. It's not like I don't have reading to do, or that homework on historical sound change, or groceries to buy, or more reading to do, or my guitar to practice, or, you know, actual fic to write. Still, this was a lot of fun, and it made my weekend (which has, thus far, for entirely non-fannish all-my-own-damn-fault reasons, been rather impressively sucktacular) much much better.
So. I'm putting it up on yousendit - if you download it, let me know what you think. It's not like I have a surfeit of time, but this was a lot of fun to do, and, you know, I could read a happy story next time. Provided, of course, that my voice doesn't make you want to claw your ears off.
so, 2) is Revelations, podcast. WARNING: Very dark story. Seriously. Do notread listen (yes, hi. I'm smart!) if you aren't into that. 10 minutes long, or thereabouts.
3) So I'm going to need a beta. Sometime this week? But maybe not. Maybe later. Thing is, I've signed up to do an anonymous fic at some point, and so posting a beta-request right before it went up would be kind of a givaway. Not that anyone other than me cares about these things at all, of course, but still: would any of you like to beta something anonymous, sometime in the next week or so? It won't be terribly long, I don't think.
In other news? My username is hard to say, which I didn't realize until I was doing the podfic. Because, I mean, it's etben, which I took from et ben, which is something I say all the damn time when I speak French. It doesn't really have a meaning - it's just a space-filler sort of sound, like 'um' or 'well' (or 'ah', if you're Benton Fraser). But when I read it, I want to make the 't' hard and consonantal, and I just get thrown off.
And now: to the homeworkmobile!
