adventures in cinema
So last night I made
soundslikej watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? with me, for reasons of Clooney, and it was an A+ life experience! And then afterwards we were discussing Clooney and how great his face is, and this happened:
M: I don't think I've seen another movie where he was this silly, you know? Like, I guess Ocean's, but those are really more caper movies than actualfax comedies.
J: Yeah - he's like that in interviews, but I guess not so much in movies.
M: And he's got such an expressive face, while simultaneously being really classically attractive - you know who he reminds me of?
J: Who?
M: Chris Evans! Oh, and also the guy who played Steve Rogers.
J: ...
M: What?
J: ...oh honey.
M: .../o\
Relatedly, last week my parents went to the movies! During one of the previews, my dad leans over to my mother and says, "hey, this looks good, we should see it sometime!" Only for my mother to inform him that the movie in question was in fact the last movie they'd seen together, two or three weeks previously. I'm just saying, it's not like this shit is in any way surprising.
In conclusion, George Clooney is incredibly attractive and makes some really great faces, Oh Brother is still the only Coen Bros movie that I've really loved, and also my facial recognition circuit is a piece of shit. Happy Saturday!

I mean, technically it's not that my facial recognition skills are bad, per se - I can look at somebody and know that I've seen them before - I just have absolutely no ability to map names onto said faces, especially when people keep changing their hair color and wearing different clothes and sitting in different places.

HEE. ♥! I tend to be insanely good at this game, in contrast -- for example, there's a character in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo whose face you see for approximately two seconds, and I was like "OMG, is that Tao from B13: Ultimatum???", despite the fact she was wearing completely different things and also speaking in another language. (I'm pretty excited, because when I checked, it turns out they credited her as Miriam Wu, which means if/when they adapt the next book, she's going to be around again and having lots of hot sex with Lisbeth and kicking people in the face. YAY! :D)
I also adore Oh Brother -- it's A++ as a movie, but then I also geek out about the music, and all the little reference-y things the Coen Brothers do, in between giggling like a maniac. :)

he's really good in the descendants! it's kind of sad and strange, but also funny in parts, and GORGEOUS since it takes place in hawaii and, yk, george clooney. he tries to be stealthy and fails SUPER HARD. also my parents are friends with the casting director!

I think he's pretty silly in Leatherheads? I've never seen it, but he was kind of ridic in the previews, so...

I am reliably terrible at recognizing faces and then mapping those faces onto names/previous roles - it's actually kind of funny how terrible it is.

occasionally I will have a stroke of scathing brilliance, usually regarding an actor I know only through tumblr in a bit role in a completely different show, and I'll be all, "that guy! that one there - no, he's gone, now, but that one! with the hair and the face! isn't he that guy on that show that people talk about?" and then it turns out that he is and I have champagne. \o/
in conclusion, CLOONEY. Also I have never seen the descendants, but you are making a compelling argument!

Some people just have issues with facial recognition. It's a thing.
