the futon, otoh, is EXTREMELY STURDY

First off, MASSIVE FLAILY THANKS to [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl, [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley, [livejournal.com profile] drlense, [livejournal.com profile] ldthomps, [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek, and [livejournal.com profile] bathsweaver for all of their help with the move yesterday. It was AMAZING and a million times smoother than any of us (or [livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade and I, at least) had expected, and also FAST LIKE LIGHTNING. THANK YOU ALL.

(ps, one of you left a Red Sox baseball cap on our kitchen table?)

But. Okay. So the thing you have to understand is that in the following pictures, I am TOTALLY INNOCENT.

But. Well. Um.

First off, last night I was in the kitchen, dooting around and waiting for Jai to get back from returning the truck, when I heard an almighty CRASH. After some investigation (and a frantic check of the A/C), it turned out to be this:

To clarify, that's the light fixture. ...yeah.

(...when I mentioned this to the landlord, his response was, "oh, yeah, that was on the floor when the last tenants moved out...I guess that must be why!" Which, *facepalm*, but on the other hand at least it's pretty clearly NOT OUR FAULT, so. Plus he brought us a lease! FUCKING FINALLY)

And then, this morning, I was sitting at the kitchen table, taking a break from putting up shelves (IN OUR CABINETS. OF WHICH WE HAVE MANY.) when THIS happened:

...yeah. Turns out there was a REASON the lesbian a block away was willing to thrown in the chairs for free! (The table, at least, is very sturdy, so I'm still calling the $25 we spent on those a deal)

AND YET, I am still extremely pleased with this state of affairs! I have put up some shelves in the kitchen cabinets, and put some things ON those shelves, and puttered around ridiculously, and just - APARTMENT. This is my face right now: :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

At some point soon, one of us will post a picspam of the entire process of relocation, and sometime next month I will start CLASSES and want to talk about other things again! ...but not right away, sry2say.

Wait. WAIT. WHAT broke?? I can't tell! But holy crap!

AND YAY LEASE FOR THE WINNNNNNNNNNNN!

And, awww, the chair. Oh, baby. LOLING FOREVER.

YOU GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUYS! ♥♥♥

p.s.

The cap belongs to [livejournal.com profile] bathsweaver, I believe! She of the adorable.

Oh, um, I meant to do that. Really! Totally! My cunning plan for world domination begins in your kitchen. Mrwahahaha, mwa mwa. ::FAILS PLOTS::

The light fixture! And, like, to his credit, Dave was totally upfront about that being ALL HIS FAULT - like, we weren't even in the ROOM when that happened, so.

BUT STILL. DO NOT WANT FALLING LIGHT FIXTURES.

The chair was mostly just hilarious, tbh - like, one minute I was sitting in the chair, and then the next minute I was sitting on the floor! WHOOPS. I'm just glad I didn't have my computer on my lap, because euuuuuurgh.

NO YOU. ♥!

[identity profile] impertinence.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OH GOODNESS. is that a light fixture?

but yay moving! I can't wait for more pictures. o_o
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It was! Now it is an EX-light fixture. Fortunately, now that I look at it in daylight, it doesn't seem to have landed on anything except for the underside of the couch, so we don't have to worry as much about where the glass shards might have gone.

OH MY GOD IMP IT IS THE BEST. We have DOORS. ALL OF THE DOORS. Also we have ALL OF THE SHELF SPACE IN CREATION, and it is AMAZING.

[identity profile] impertinence.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
SHELVES ARE ONE OF THE BEST INVENTIONS. my favorite is having empty ones you can FILL WITH BOOKS.

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
RIGHT? omg, I can't wait until Jai comes home so we can clean up the glass shards and FILL THE BOOKCASE WITH BOOKS.

and that's not even mentioning the Amazing Falling Window. \o/?

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
lololololol I forgot about that! but I don't think that really counts, given that it didn't ACTUALLY fall on our heads.

...or, wait, did you mean the one at the old place? (AHAHAHAHA WHAT IS OUR LIFE THAT WE HAVE MORE THAN ONE FALLING WINDOW? I mean, um. Our apartment contains absolutely no fail at all! :D? :D?

[identity profile] speshope.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a light figure randomly crash down about two feet away from me once. For no reason. It was very scary! I'm glad you all didn't have to add glass shards to your inventory of moving bumps and bruises.
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? Plus we'd already had a minor scare with one of the windows earlier, so I was having visions of a full-size window falling out of the frame and breaking apart ALL OVER OUR BED, which would have been...much worse! So, you know. small mercies!

[identity profile] janet-carter.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I have ALSO had this happen! Close enough to scratch my cheek! It was months after we moved into the apartment, and we had never changed that lightbulb, so then I went around with pliers tightening up all the rest of the fixtures.

In short, I'm glad no one was hurt!
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
eurrrrrrrgh! That is really not a fun thing. I guess I'm glad this happened now, when all of our crap is still in boxes mostly? And also when nobody was standing there, obviously.

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
*snortlaughing* Oh NOES. Moving is always such a disaster, but--well, at least this disaster waited until you'd had a good night's sleep? In your new place? YAY?
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! And, I mean - it could definitely have been worse, you know? I'm totally counting my blessings that it wasn't the light fixture in, say, the kitchen, which would have had to be cleaned up RIGHT AWAY if we wanted to do ANYTHING AT ALL (and which is also prettier! *is shallow*).

[identity profile] drlense.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I will admit that the chair ALMOST collapsed on me last night when I sat on it- but I thought I fixed it! I should have warned you!

I'm glad the landlord was awesome! And also brought the lease!
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
heeeee, don't worry about it! we got what we paid for, which in this case was NOT A WHOLE LOT. Any and all use we get out of the chairs is pretty much gravy, you know?

YAY LANDLORD YAY! He is kind of a flake sometimes, but also frequently totally awesome, so. *hands* On the whole, I am pro this dude!

[identity profile] brooklinegirl.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
omfg. I am SO GLAD the light fixture fell when it DID, and not, you know, when you were IN THE ROOM. It must have scared the LIFE out of you.

and OOPS, chair! uhm, yeah, both Sarah and I saw it almost go last night, but she fixed it! I swear! we weren't just doing it for the laughs! Oops.

hi baby! NEW APARTMENT. FTW.
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
God, seriously - like, it blows that it broke, but at least it broke on the floor and the bookshelf and not, say, PEOPLE.

lolololol don't even worry about it, bb. SHIT HAPPENS, you know? It's not like it was a family heirloom or anything.

NEW APARTMENT OMGGGGGG. I can't wait to get it all set up the way we want to and then have people come over to SEE IT in all its glory! IT IS GOING TO BE AMAZING, JUST YOU WAIT.

[identity profile] strobelighted.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
YAYAYAY you have your own apartment! \o/\o/\o/

And well... at least that light fixture did not fall on anyone's head? :D? D:
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
FUCK YEAHHHHHHH. It's like we're ADULTS or something!

yyyyyy definitely. Small blessings! Plus now we have swept up most of the glass, so it's less hazardous.

[identity profile] bathsweaver.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
OH RELIEF, AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT GLASS WAS FROM YOUR BUILT-IN CABINETS, OMG OMG.

YOU HAVE SIGNED THE LEASE. :DDDDDDDD \\\\\o//////
ext_842: (Default)

[identity profile] etben.livejournal.com 2010-08-12 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
oh man, no, I would have cried like a baby were that the case. As it was, I was just kind of "...well, bonjour to all this crap. *hands*"

we...haven't actually SIGNED the lease yet, but we HAVE a lease! which is an improvement! BABY STEPS.
