In which I talk about myself.

1. A meme! In which you comment, and I ask you five questions, and you answer them, and post your answers to your journal. You needn't participate if you don't want, but I did it and here are my answers to [livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80's questions:

1. What brought you to fandom in the first place and what made you decide to be a writer in fandom?

Um. Not sure? I mean, I've always been a fan, in the sense of reading a lot and wanting to know what came next. My first fandom for reading was Jane Austen—I stumbled on a fansite one day and never looked back. Actually, I distinctly remember telling my mom that, hey, there were websites out there that wrote about what happened after Pride and Prejudice ended, and wasn't that neat? (My mom, for the record, said 'that's nice, dear', thereby ensuring my eventual entry into fandom)

The first fandom I wrote in was...well, I guess I wrote in HP, but I never posted anything—no, even that's a lie. I posted one story to schnoogle, and it was very gen and probably not very good, and half-plotted a number of atrocious self-insertions. The first fandom that I ever wrote something I liked in was SGA, soon followed by dS. It's not really so much that I decided to become a writer, I guess: mostly, it was just a matter of finally writing something I felt willing to inflict on the world, something that I felt other people might perhaps be interested in reading.

2. If you had to choose either RayK or Fraser (and no, I won't tell you for what), which one would you choose and why?

Ray. Ray all the way. I mean, I love Fraser dearly, and in many ways he might well be better for me, but Ray would be my first choice in everything not involving skinning dead animals. And even then? I'd chose to go hang with Ray and make Fraser do the skinning. Ray's voice has always been easier for me to write, and I just relate to him more: skinny screwy kids who can fake normal but never for long, who get kind of obsessive about people they love. Also? SEXY. Hi. I mean, yes, Fraser's attractive, but Ray is more my type, and I find it easier to imagine him ravishing someone. And, yes, I would like to be ravished (any volunteers).

3. What is something that is part of your life today that you never would have imagined five years ago?

Fandom, or at least in this way: as a reader and a writer of explicit sex. That's kind of a cheating answer, though, so, in no particular order: women (in a sexual context; five years ago I definitely thought I was straight), Arabic, tea, alcohol, TV shows (and, by extension, TV fandoms), an iPod.

4. What is your favorite kink in fandom and why? Is it a kink you have in RL?

Um. Again, not at all sure. I mean, most of the stuff that pings for me hardcore in fic is stuff I've never tried in life, so I don't know for sure if it's something I just like in concept but not in practice, or if I'd dig it. I mean, kissing fic is awesome, and I love to kiss, so there's one thing, but that's not really a kink, I suppose.

I tend to dig threesomes and moresomes (oh, like that's a surprise to anyone...), although a big part of that is, I think, just the idea of being overwhelmed, in fic and in RL. On the other hand, I also ping really hard for threesome-relationship-fic, the happy and stable three-person-relationship, wherease in real life? I'm pretty sure I'm entirely too much of a jealous fuck to ever be OK with that.

Bondage and related things can be absolutely excellent, in fic, but it really, really depends on the characters—if the writer doesn't sell me on why John wants to tie Rodney up (and, in that case, why Rodney is letting him), it won't work for me at all. In real life, that's something that I find simultaneously appealling and terrifying, and when it works for me in fic, it works because it's playing on that dynamic: a character who's generally really in control and who gives up that control, and the reasons he or she choses to do so, and the response he or she gets from the person doing the tying up.

5. What's your favorite kind of food?

Anything I cook for myself! It all tastes better when you make it (and can make someone else do your dishes). Barring that, Indian food as made by my dad. Vindaloo? fuck yeah.

2. It's my birthday, yo! And, OK, fine, I'm about to go to bed, and then I'll spend tomorrow doing work and writing and betaing, and then party in the evening and spend sunday sleeping it off, so I won't be around much, but dude! It's my birthday! And if any of you who aren't [livejournal.com profile] riverlight can guess my age, I will be happy at you, and possibly write you a somethinglet.

3. In the theme of it being my birthday and how people should give me stuff, I'm on the hunt for two beta-shaped creatures, one in SGA and one in Supernatural. Any volunteers? I know it seems like I only ask for betas and post fic—would it seem less obnoxious and needy if I posted random personal info as well?

3a. To people I've promised to beta for: Yes, I know. I'm a terrible person. I could blame it on sudden influx of family, but really? I'm just kind of spazzy right now. I swear I will get your stuff back to you soon ([livejournal.com profile] stop, you're first on the list! I should have it for you by tomorrow afternoon, earlyish).

4. Fannish moments of the week: At work, Tech Boy was complaining about how his girlfriend can't keep track of the characters on BSG. Cute Boy was talking about Smallville (and reads Jane Austen for fun! *swoon*), and Short Boy was complaining about how his roommate, Tall Boy, stays up to all hours of the night watching Sports Night. And, OK, granted, none of these are my fandoms, but STILL. STILL, people. Fannish convergence.

And also? My mother, apparently, caught due South when it first aired, and rather liked it. My brother wants to borrow my SGA dvds at some point.

EVERYONE'S A FAN. Seriously, they are coming out of the walls, here.

5. Dude. Did you miss the part where it's my birthday? *is obnoxious* Also, I got a sunburn today, and presents, and Chicago? Is lovely. I love my city.

ETA: So, um, I really wasn't fishing for presents (except in the sense of needing betas), but dude! balloons! *hugs [livejournal.com profile] threequarters* Thank you, dear! That's so sweet! *bigass grin* And thanks to the rest of you, too—your birthday wishes are awesome and happy-inducing.
