world mental health day
...this was going to be a much longer post, but I can't actually deal with that right now; I'm just going to point out that today is (or, well, yesterday was, but give me a break on the chronology, okay?) World Mental Health Day.
Well. No. I'm also going to say that my name is Marie, and that I have mental health issues. This is neither the time nor the place for details - although if any of y'all want to discuss, I'll be around for a good while - but it seemed worth mentioning.
Because - look. It's taken me about six years - possibly more, depending where you want to count from - to be able to admit that my tendency to skip meals is anything other than "forgetting", that I don't stay up all night because I can't bear to put the book I'm reading down, that when I skip class, it's not because I'm lazy. Six years, in one of the most developed countries of this world, in a loving family in a liberal town.
And I have, by and large, been fortunate.
So, yeah. This is me, raising awareness.
.
And this is me, doing my pragmatics* homework. I'm on AIM and gchat and LJtalk, and will be until I wrestle this monstrosity into submission; I can't promise to be witty, but do feel free to ping me if you'd like a word.
*Sadly, not actually a class on Sucking It Up And Taking It Like A Man - I feel like that should be a requirement for this school, to be honest. In this context, pragmatics = the study of meaning, specifically the meanings that aren't explicitly stated in conversation. Implicatures, yay! ...ish.
