In 2000, I was still in high school, and my parents could still tell me to go to bed at a reasonable hour on election night. And when I woke up on Wednesday morning, it took me a good while to accept that it wasn't a nightmare or a cruel, cruel joke–it was reality. For the next eight years, as it turned out.
It keeps hitting me, over and over, that this is not a dream, this is not a joke. This is our future. This is how it goes. Yes, we can.
