Dear Yuletide Author,
Hello! How nice to meet someone who loves some of these ridiculous things! Overall, I will be thrilled with anything you write—but if you want a little more guidance, here we go:
Generally, I don't care for: major character death, pining that doesn't get resolved, infidelity, rape, torture and abuse, high levels of gore, incest.
Generally, I like: porn, gender weirdness, worldbuilding, snappy dialogue & banter, domesticity, teams, found families, smart and competent characters, characters who BECOME smarter and more competent over the course of the story, absurdly codependent bff pairings, absurdly codependent frenemies-turned-relucatant-allies-turned-lovers pairings, outsider POV, pining that gets resolved, bodyswap, telepathy, fucking around with gender, fake dating / pretending to be married / woke up married, nonsexual intimacy, cuddling (for warmth or otherwise), characters taking care of each other, negotiation of kinks, characters being awkward about their kinks but then finding a partner who validates and supports them, shenanigans, porn.
More specifically:
Humans Are Space Orcs: I love stories about aliens that are truly alien, and the ways in which humans are alien to everybody else out there. How do people bridge those gaps—especially the gaps they're not expecting? Bringing an alien home to meet the parents? Things inter-species couples argue about? If you bring in language-related issues / the inherent challenges of a universal translation mechanism, I will fall over in glee, but really, anything here will be amazing. Weird alien gender shit mandatory; porn encouraged but not required! [If you're not familiar with the canon, it's a pretty easy one: start here!]
Sins of the Cities: PEN GIVE ME MORE PEN I WANT MORE PEN. I don't think a character has ever hit me more directly in the heart than Pen did, and I just—anything. Gender stuff! Relationship stuff! Stuff with Gret! ANYTHING. Futurefic would be great! Slice of life fic? Amazing, incredible. Bonkers tropes? Why not!!
Dimension 20: A Court of Fey and Flowers Listen, a genderqueer owlbear is something that can just be so personal, okay? Obviously Rue is amazing & my fave, but KP Hobb is no less interesting. Futurefic would be fascinating - how do they move forward after the campaign ends? How do Blemish & Boil react to Rue? How do things shake out with the various Courts? Or there are SO many what-if moments: what if Rue had realized that their letters weren't being delivered? What if either of them had rolled halfway decent perception, uh, ever? What if, as Brennan suggested on Adventuring Party, KP Hobb was actually three salt goblins in a trenchcoat? Basically, I love everything about this canon & these characters, so whatever you write is going to be gold.
Iron Widow Series : Again, everything about this canon is absolute catnip to me. Any exploration of the whole Wu Zetian/Li Shimin/Gao Yizhi relationship would be amazing - outsider POV, maybe? or just an offscreen moment? I love that the three of them truly do love each other, despite disagreeing and fucking up and having legit conflicts, and I LOVE the complete absence of love-triangle nonsense. That said, you could also go for worldbuilding / book 2 speculation - like, what the fuck is up with Yizhi's tattoos? What is going on with The Gods? WHO are these nomads who rock up in the last 20% of the book and completely turn the plot on its head? [This fandom does get a waiver of my 'no major character death' request for canon-related reasons, but I would prefer it if Li Shimin did not stay dead.]
