avengersverse thoughts and feelings
We are rewatching Thor tonight, as every wonderful household does on a Friday night, and I have THOUGHTS. And FEELINGS.
1. First and foremost, something I never noticed before: right after SHIELD swoops in and steals all of Jane's research, Selvig is trying to talk her down, and he says, "I knew a man, once - an expert in gamma radiation - SHIELD showed up and he was never heard from again."
Now, obviously there's no way to KNOW that he's talking about Bruce Banner, there - but it does make sense! Selvig is an expert in gamma radiation - that's why he was working for SHIELD in the Avengers. When Loki mind-whammied him, SHIELD had to go to their backup guy: Bruce Banner. Given that, plus the tendency that Marvel has to include shout-outs to other parts of the franchise, I am choosing to believe that Erik Selvig and Bruce Banner used to be SCIENCE BROS together, which means that they may yet be SCIENCE BROS again!
(With Tony Stark, obviously, because every story needs some more Tony Stark, and if you disagree with me then I'm sorry but we just can't be friends any more.)
2. I've seen various schools of thought around Tumblr in re: Loki - people seem to split between hating his guts and seeing him as the most tragic of all possible tragic cupcakes. I...disagree with both sides! In that, especially in Thor but in a lesser extent also in the Avengers, I sympathize with his feelings...but not so much with his life decisions. At the beginning of the film, he's clearly devastated to learn that he's the child of ~~the enemy~~, and I don't blame him a bit, because, wow, way to make sure that he learned that at the worst possible time, Odin! And I can see how, growing up, it would have been hard to be consistently passed over for his brother, given how much of a dipshit Thor is at the beginning of the movie. Plus, in the Avengers, Loki consistently looks like 20 miles of bad road, which leads me to believe that some of his decisions have been more a question of "well, I don't really have any good choices here, so I guess I'll just go with...this one?"
...and yet, the extent to which Loki completely fails to respond in a proportionate manner is just - oh honey, no. Therapy! Family counseling, even! Blowing up most of Manhattan: not actually a good life choice.
3. [blah blah thoughts and feelings about Loki and Thor as gods, and the extent to which they are or are not influenced by the expectations of their believers - basically I really need to re-read American Gods before I can figure out what this thought wants to be.]
4. I deeply and sincerely want ONE MILLION WORDS OF FIC about Thor and Jane in the interval post-Thor (or I guess post-Avengers?) where he has to get used to her being, you know, a ridiculous academic nerdball who spends most of her time either a) in her head, b) in a van in the desert, or c) in a shitty office split between four other junior faculty. Like, I'm betting that Jane is sometimes fairly terrible at human interaction!
...and meanwhile, Jane has to adjust to the fact that, in Asgard, Thor is the favored son of the king, all ego and flash and beating shit up with a huge fucking hammer - basically, he's Tony Stark in an even sillier outfit. ADJUSTMENTS ALL AROUND.
5. God damn, Hemsworth really is a blond Heath Ledger, isn't he? HEEEEEEF ;____;
In other news, I'm done with classes! and am guaranteed to graduate! Which means that, with the exception of some interviews and some family shenanigans, the only things I need to do between now and the end of the month are:
• pack for the summer
• put the gd a/c in the window
• write the story about how Tony and Pepper Make It Work (which is also the story about how Stark Tower comes to be, maybe? And might also involve a threesome with Bruce Banner, fuck you, don't judge me.)
• write the ridiculous gen epic about Steve Rogers Discovering The 21st Century, ugh,
angelsaves and
soundslikej are the WORST enablers.
• write about Thor and Jane sleeping with everybody
• write about how everybody sleeps with everybody in the Avengers Mansion, for reasons of plot.
My life choices: actually fairly valid, for a change! If you have thoughts on Thor, or on the Avengers more generally, or if you have things you think I should write, you should come have opinions at me in the comments!

...we may still be in this period, actually. I make no promises.
