In other news, standing up in front of the class to read a translated passage is made infinitely more exciting when, immediately before you begin, your professor informs you all that the author uses the word "nerves" as a metaphor for sex. Especially when your translation looks something like this:
and in the fifth month...the steamship anchored in the port of New York...and the officers disembarked, as was their habit, and in the front of all of them was the bombshell of nerves, which he would release in the first dance hall they went to...and I remained and stayed on the ship, and discharged my bombshell of nerves upon myself...and I sighed, and I cursed...I cursed everything around me....
