soundslikej and I bemoaned the fact that a box of cookies now costs, like - what is it, even? $4.50? Something ridiculous like that?
And it got me thinking about mental price points - the things that you are convinced should still cost $X, even though clearly time has passed and inflation has occurred and stuff and things. Mine are candy bars (which should be $0.50, or maybe $0.75 if you're getting a king-size bar - I complained about how overpriced the vending machines at school were for weeks before realizing that, no, that's just what a candy bar costs these days) and paperback books (somewhere around $4 or $5). Obviously other prices have also changed, but those are the ones that I am endlessly baffled by - probably because, in retrospect, I wasn't doing much other shopping when I was 13 and so didn't realize what those things cost.
So what I want to know, internets, is what are your mental price points - the things that you're still convinced should cost $X despite silly little things like the passage of linear time?

In other sexy exciting news, we bought curtains for the living room and office at long last! ...which we totally failed to put up in favor of making peanut butter cookies, watching Toy Story 3, and taking a nap. Our life plans: actually pretty much the best.
